My name is Nancy and I've been playing the Native American flute for 14 years. The first time I heard the flute it was on a cd. I didn't know what kind of instrument it was, but I knew I had to learn how to play this beautiful instrument. The sound of the flute was peaceful and unique.
I had no clue how to buy a Native American flute or how to learn to play it. After searching for weeks,I finally found a music catalog that sold flutes. I was so excited when I received my first flute. I spent days and nights blowing into the mouth piece trying to make music. After a few weeks, the flute started to sing. Ah....What a beautiful sound.
Forturnately I found another flute made by Ken Light. When I received the flute, I also received information about The Renaissance of the Native American Flute. It's a flute camp given every year at Feather Pipe Ranch in Montana, with Ken Light (flute maker) and R.C.Nakai. I knew I had to go, no matter what, so I went in 1996-97-99 and learned a lot from Nakai and Light. I had a great time and found other people who enjoyed playing the Native American flute.
I now own 34 beautiful flutes and enjoy playing each one. Each flute has it's own voice and song to be heard.
